Shutter angle
Exposure time expressed as the open angle of a rotary shutter: angle ÷ 360 × 1/frame rate. At 24 fps, 180° is 1/48 s — the usual baseline for natural motion blur.

- Frame rateFrames recorded per second: 24 for cinema, 23.976 for broadcast-compatible 24, 25 in 50 Hz regions, 29.97 in 60 Hz broadcast. Keep one base rate per project.
- FlickerPulsing or banding on screen when a light’s rapid intensity changes fall out of step with the shutter; on 60 Hz mains, shutters such as 1/60 or 1/120 reduce it.
- High-speed (slow motion)Shooting above the base frame rate and playing back at base speed for slow motion. Slow-down = capture fps ÷ playback fps; 120 fps on a 24 fps timeline is 5×. Faster shutter means more light needed.
