f-stop (f-number)
Focal length divided by the diameter of the aperture. Higher numbers mean a smaller opening, less light and deeper focus; f1.4, 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8 are one stop apart.

- T-stopAn aperture value based on light actually transmitted through the lens, so lenses set to the same T-stop give the same exposure. Standard on cine lenses.
- Depth of fieldThe range in front of and behind the focus point that looks sharp. It gets shallower with a wider aperture, longer focal length, closer subject and, for the same framing, a larger sensor.
- Focal lengthThe lens value in millimetres that sets the angle of view: shorter is wider, longer is tighter. On smaller sensors the same lens frames tighter, so it is compared in full-frame equivalents.
